Maximizing Wood Pole Longevity
New Insights into Assessment Effectiveness
November 14, 2024 | Online :: Central Time
This presentation aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of various wood utility pole assessment methods in identifying “reject” poles, specifically in comparison to full excavation assessments. From simple visual assessments to partial excavations, these methods have been previously guided by historical experience to provide assessment effectiveness estimates.
To enhance the identification of at-risk structures and create a more robust wood pole health program, the largest study of its kind has recently been conducted. This study aims to better quantify the expectations of effectiveness, allowing for the preservation of structural integrity of wood poles. It reevaluates the effectiveness of traditional utility pole assessment methods, using a study of unprecedented scale that involved thousands of poles and tens of thousands of unique assessments.
Webinar Outcomes
- Understand the various methods of traditional wood pole assessment.
- Learn the outcomes of the study and the expectations a utility should have in the accuracy of identifying at-risk wood poles
- Understand how to evaluate different assessment technologies and techniques in terms of accuracy of identifying risk
- Understand the impact on the overall health of the wood pole plant based on the assessment methods used and through analytics, project what the condition of the poles will be in during the next assessment cycle.
