This course will provide owners with an overview of steps to take in the plant closure process by sharing vital information and lessons that have been acquired by the experts involved. The process is a complicated one consisting of multiple specialties across the generation field. The knowledgeable instructors each brings with them years of experience in their field giving the course attendees a comprehensive view and interactive setting for which to engage and take back with them as much applicable information as possible. Some of the topics covered will be stakeholder management, environmental factors and assessments, financial considerations, reducing risk and avoiding safety hazards.

  • Identify what is involved with the different phases of a plant decommissioning project
  • Define one important component of decommissioning safety in having utilities isolated
  • Review the differences and options in retirement models
  • Evaluate the lessons learned by Detroit Edison through their consideration of decommissioning projects as large environmental projects

  • Consider what the site should look like when the project is completed

Instructors

Jeffery L. Pope PE, Manager, Facility Decommissioning & Demolition Services, Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co., Inc

Mr. Pope has more than 29 years of experience in the design, construction and operation of soil and groundwater remediation systems, decommissioning/demolition studies for power plants, demolition specification development and bid evaluations for various facilities and the investigation and remediation of sediments. Mr. Pope earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is currently a licensed professional engineer in 23 states. His recent focus has been providing utilities and power cooperatives with assistance for the decommissioning and demolition of coal-fired power plants following the decision to close. Specifically, Mr. Pope concentrates primarily the closure of ash ponds, ash landfills, coal piles, investigation and remediation of historic fuel and PCBs releases, as well as the removal of hazardous materials (including asbestos) prior to demolition activities.

Frank Bodami, Managing Member, Total Wrecking & Environmental, LLC

Frank Bodami brings more than 35 years of demolition and environmental remediation field experience to Total Wrecking & Environmental clients. Frank has a reputation for honesty, fairness and thoroughness, providing clients with peace of mind and maintaining the demolition company’s position at the forefront of the demolition and environmental remediation industries. He is responsible for overseeing the activities of the business, including production, equipment purchasing, environmental management, and personnel supervision. Frank is an active participant on all job sites where he handles estimating, negotiating, troubleshooting, and providing clients with a high degree of owner accessibility and accountability, resulting in superior customer service and satisfaction. Frank has contributed to the National Demolition Association as a member of the Board of Directors, as chair of the Risk Management Committee and member of the Safety Committee.

Joe Vendetti, Senior Vice President of Industrial Services, Integrated Demolition and Remediation Inc

Joe has 34 years in the D&D business.  He has successfully bid, won, and run the demolition & abatement of 33 power plants for 24 utilities located in 13 different U.S. states which accounts for 118 boilers and 15,953 MW’s. Mr. Vendetti holds a technical undergraduate degree in Operations Research and a MBA from RPI in Troy NY. He has served on the National Demolition Association (NDA) Safety Committee twice,  provided expert court testimony in demolition accidents in the US & UK, and currently is the SR VP of Industrial Services for Integrated Demolition Services (IDR).

Your registration may be transferred to a member of your organization up to 24 hours in advance of the event. Cancellations must be received on or before June 05, 2020 in order to be refunded and will be subject to a US $195.00 processing fee per registrant. No refunds will be made after this date. Cancellations received after this date will create a credit of the tuition (less processing fee) good toward any other EUCI event. This credit will be good for six months from the cancellation date. In the event of non-attendance, all registration fees will be forfeited. In case of conference cancellation, EUCIs liability is limited to refund of the event registration fee only.
