Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant turns 50 with plans to continue operations

Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in Athens, Ala., the Tennessee Valley Authority’s largest electricity generating asset, is celebrating 50 years of service this month.
The United States’ third largest nuclear power producer had the first units in the world capable of producing 1,000 megawatts of power in 1974, according to a release. Now, the plant generates up to 3,954 MW of carbon-free baseload energy to power more than 2 million homes and businesses in Tennessee Valley, according to a release.
