North Omaha coal plant transitioning to natural gas by 2026

The north Omaha coal plant is moving away from using coal.

The president and CEO of the Omaha Public Power District said during a committee meeting Monday that the plant will be transitioning to natural gas in 2026.

“We’re getting them to that level of planning of converting the plant from a coal-burning, power generation plant to a natural gas burning power generation plant,” Javier Fernandez, OPPD CEO, said.
