United Illuminating lawsuit claims electric rates approved by CT will force it to operate at a loss

Arguing that an August decision by Connecticut regulators on utility rates will force it to operate at a loss, United Illuminating Co. filed a lawsuit on Monday in New Britain Superior Court asking for the ruling to be reversed.

Commissioners with the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority voted unanimously last month that UI “failed to prove” the necessity of its request for an 8 percent rate hike over three years. But PURA’s ruling also offered the company some compromises, state regulatory officials said.
